Over the past few years, there has been growing talk about women empowerment. As part of this initiative, women self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed, successfully bringing social change in many areas. This year, we organized two Awareness-cum-Training Camps in Kakatpur and Kenderapati G.P.
In these camps, women were introduced to the concept of SHG and the potential benefits of forming viable groups. The leaders of the SHGs were also trained in Entrepreneurial Development Program (EDP) and various income-generating activities they could undertake on commercial terms. During the training, there was a strong emphasis on capacity building for SHG leaders.
Currently, Prachi Youth Social Organisation (PYSO) has promoted 100 SHGs in Kakatpur, Katakana, Kundhei, and Lataharan G.P of Kakatpur Block, as well as Kendrapati and Saripur G.P of Astarang. For their capacity building, we organized specialized training sessions. We also linked these groups with banks and other institutions.
Among the groups, some have successfully started and are running businesses in their localities. These efforts have not only empowered women but have also contributed to the overall economic growth of their communities.
